Chinese lithium-ion OEM Hithium and system integrator BOS Power have signed a supply agreement for 3GWh of BESS deployments in the Nordic region.
The agreement will see Hithium supply BOS with battery energy storage system (BESS) technology for projects in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway through 2027.
Hithium will provide BOS Power with technical training and authorise the company as a certified service provider.
BOS Power is an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm, system integrator and service provider in the area of sustainable propulsion, energy storage and power generation solutions.

The firm was recently enlisted by independent power producer (IPP) Eurowind Energy to install a 45MWh BESS at a wind and solar plant in Skive, Denmark, as reported by Energy-Storage.news. That would be a pinch larger than the largest online in the country, a 43MWh system completed in May.
BOS Power said the first project under the agreement with Hithium is already under construction in Denmark, though didn’t provide any details that might confirm it is the one with Eurowind.
The company is also the sole authorised distributor and service partner in the Nordics for the Rolls-Royce Systems Products and Solutions mtu line of products, which includes its BESS solution. Is it part of the conglomerate Bertel O. Steen.
The Nordic region, particularly Sweden and Finland, is becoming a hotbed of grid-scale BESS activity, driven primarily by high ancillary service prices as more renewables come online and legacy hydropower fleets, which historically provided most ancillary services, age.
Project owners Ingrid Capacity and NTR recently moved forward with plans to build 110MWh and 140MWh projects in Finland, respectively, in March and April.
Hithium, meanwhile, is one of only a handful of large-scale lithium-ion battery cell manufacturers that is entirely focused on the BESS segment, and also manufactures its own BESS. It has significantly increased its market share in the industry in the past few years as noted by research firm Rho Motion in a recent note.
It made headlines recently with the first deployments of BESS that use its 1175Ah ‘long-duration’ cells for a project in Saudi Arabia. The industry standard for the past few years has been 314Ah, around one-quarter of that, and even recent increases have been to a little over 600Ah, still half Hithium’s.
