More than AU$1 billion (US$0.65 billion) of financial commitments to large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects were made in Australia in the second quarter of this year.

Australia’s government has made a AU$100 million (US$66.35 million) investment into the Waratah Super Battery, part of a total AU$500 million capital raise by the project’s developer.

Powin Energy has signed its latest multiple gigawatt-hour deal, including supply of some of the cells for its Waratah Super Battery project.

Planning approval has been given for Waratah Super Battery in Australia to help fill gap in energy supply from a retiring coal power plant.
