Potentia Energy, a joint venture co-owned by Enel Green Power and INPEX, has secured the first environmental approval for a grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) under South Australia’s new Hydrogen and Renewable Energy (HRE) Act.

IPP and energy trader Monsson has kicked off the environmental permit process for a 2GWh BESS project in Romania, which an executive said will use its own patented energy storage solution.

AES has seen a hybrid wind, solar and BESS project in Chile receive an environmental permit, while Oenergy has suffered a setback for a standalone project.

Sun Cable has obtained its principal environmental approval from the Northern Territory government and NT Environment Protection Authority for its Australia-Asia PowerLink (AAPowerLink) interconnector.
