Against a backdrop of high gas prices and tighter margins in late-2021, prices for electricity and gas have soared to record highs in many markets across the world, together with the introduction of new frequency response and ancillary services in many markets, this has resulted in significant commercial appetite for energy storage. But making strategic decisions to ensure maximum return on investment for these assets has never been more complex. In this webinar, GridBeyond will explore the role of batteries in the transition to net zero energy sector, and more.

Batteries for stationary storage applications usually have design lifetimes of between 10 and 15 years. But even batteries produced by the same machine and on the same day show substantial differences in their aging behavior. With BESS playing an integral role in the transition to renewables and the long-term sustainability of our energy grid, strategic battery asset management and monitoring deployed assets are key to reducing operational risks and maximising profitability. This webinar is for project leaders of BESS systems, asset managers, owners and operators who want to accurately track and predict battery safety, performance, and aging. We will present how to build a data-driven foundation for BESS asset management using cloud-based battery analytics, how to leverage existing data from the battery management systems (BMS) and differentiate the role of the BMS from analytics.

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) will play an integral role in enabling both the transition to renewables and the long-term sustainability of our energy grid. Therefore, relentless focus is needed towards cost-optimizing the design, deployment, management, and maintenance of these systems to support such scalability. In this webinar we will explore some of the data and communication challenges to be solved in this process.

One of the main standards adopted for stationary energy storage systems (ESS) is UL 1973. This critical standard for manufacturers has recently been updated to its 3rd edition. The scope of the standard encompasses cells, battery modules, battery packs/racks and battery management systems. Understanding these updates is vital for manufacturers as they plan milestones and time-to-market for their products. This session discussed updates to the standard; considering key requirements that have been updated or modified, which energy storage manufacturers need to be aware of and understand. We will also briefly addressed the various functional requirements in the standard covering safety critical controls.

The Greek Minister of Environment and Energy recently announced a 700 MW tender for energy storage, to be issued in the autumn with a procurement of €200 million (US$235 million) in subsidies. In addition, through its Recovery and Resilience Plan, majority-funded by the EU, Greece plans on investing more than €450 million for the installation of 1,380 MW of energy storage (including pumped hydro storage) by 2030. Greece seems to be bound to represent a key storage market in the next 10 years. In this webinar, Clean Horizon provided an overall picture of the energy storage market in Greece, highlighted the rising opportunities for investors, and more.
