Long duration energy storage is “essential” to help accelerate renewable deployment, according to the US Department of Energy’s Dr Imre Gyuk, who moderates this panel discussion with Matt Harper from flow battery provider Invinity Energy Systems and Russ Weed from gravity energy storage company ARES.
Dr Gyuk is director of Energy Storage Research in the Office of Electricity at the DoE. He explains in his opening remarks that while essential from a technological standpoint, the regulatory frameworks to create market opportunities for long duration energy storage do not really exist.
Alongside presentations from Invinity and ARES, Dr Gyuk, Matt Harper and Russ Weed discuss what needs to happen to make this a reality. Presenter for the event is Solar Media events producer Maria Maluenda.
The Energy Storage Digital Series, an online-only conference and webinar series, produced and hosted by the events division of our publisher Solar Media, took place in May 2020.
