Tesla, Southern California Edison bring 80MWh Powerpack station online

The largest Tesla Powerpack station in the world is now online, in the form of the 80MWh Mira Loma substation energy storage project.

It features the 400 units of the new Powerpack 2 and will be used so SCE can manage peak demand, according to Electrek. This is reportedly the first to use the new battery pack in a utility-scale operation.

If this project proves successful, it could set a precedent for future battery-powered energy storage installations that could eventually serve to decommission more peaker plants. 

Eguana and LG Chem energy storage partnership

Eguana Technologies and Korea's LG Chem have expanded their energy storage partnership in order to optimise integration and delivery of LG Chem’s JH3 battery cell technology for stationary storage as part of Eguana’s AC Battery portfolio.

The existing partnership had enabled the US Residential AC Battery, based on LG Chem's JH2 cell technology, to be certified to meet US national standards and pass internal testing at both Eguana and LG Chem. Deployments in the Hawaii and California markets have taken place in both homeowner and utility applications.

Eguana will also expand its AC Battery product line to introduce a 37kWh commercial energy storage product based on the JH3 cell in the same standalone module format in Q2 2017.

Texas utility CPS Energy opens bids for EPC of large-scale solar+storage project

The project will be comprised of 5MW of PV and a 10MWh battery energy storage system.

The PV portion project will be built on land owned by the Southwest Research Institute, with the battery located near a 138kV substation nearby.

The window for bids closes on 11 February 2017.
