Developer NatPower has claimed it will invest £10 billion (US$12.8 billion) in the UK’s battery energy storage system (BESS) market, targeting 60GWh of deployments by 2040.
A 150MW battery energy storage system (BESS), to be deployed along with 373MW of solar PV as part of the Cleve Hill Solar Park project, has reportedly been rejected by the local planning authority in the UK.
The UK’s battery energy storage market will grow to 24GW by the end of the decade and account for almost 9% of all global capacity installations, energy research firm Rystad Energy said.
