Enersave, a digital marketplace for household energy products, has started accepting reservations for residential battery storage systems from German storage hardware and services provider sonnen in the Eastern US.

Once a customer reserves a sonnen battery on Enersave.com, a smart home meter is installed to track current electricity use and solar consumption. Data from the meter is then used to recommend the most suitable battery size. Enersave staff have also been trained to install and operate the sonnen units.

Homeowners with solar systems will then be able to store excess energy in the sonnen batteries, which are manufactured in California. The systems use smart software to control solar energy consumption and provide backup power.

Dennis Wilson, chief executive of Enersave, said: "Given sonnen's leadership in the battery storage market with the most real world installations and the most advanced, intelligent battery systems, it was an easy decision to align our business with them.

“We are excited to be among the first to offer residential battery storage with our unique smart meter sizing service, and to be on the forefront of helping solar homeowners gain more energy independence."

Sonnen currently has 12,000 battery systems deployed in multiple countries. In July, it released its latest residential solar battery system, the eco compact, including self-learning software and grid-tied functions, but without backup functions.
