AES Energy Storage has revealed details of its current project pipeline including its first deployments in Europe and expansions in Chile and California.

The company, part of the AES power company, said it had 260MW either in construction or late stage development with a quarter of that expected to be operational by mid-2016. The company has 86MW of storage currently in operation.

AES will soon begin work on projects in Northern Ireland and the Netherlands to “improve grid efficiency and reliability assisting with grid integration and operations”. Both will be the first energy storage projects of scale in their domestic markets.

Its third project in northern Chile is currently under construction. The project will provide additional reliability to a 532MW thermal power plant.

“The electricity grid is poised for a major transformation and AES is proud to work with leading utilities and power systems to bring advanced storage to a new scale,” said John Zahurancik, president, AES Energy Storage. “Energy storage is lowering costs and improving critical grid infrastructure for customers around the world,” claimed Zahurancik.
