Still from Sonnen video promo.
In the second part of our video interview with Sonnen’s UK director, Martin Allman, we look into the future. Sonnen – and a number of other companies in the energy storage space – have introduced clever new ways to use batteries and solar by connecting together the capabilities of a number of systems.

Whether these are virtual power plants, a way of balancing the grid and replacing fossil fuel power plants at the same time, or energy trading platforms along the lines of Sonnen’s idea, SonnenCommunity, solar-plus-storage is quietly revolutionising the way we look at energy.

Allman discusses whether this could work in the UK, why smart meters are a key to understanding energy use and how the industry needs to work to harness the enthusiasm of these early days to propel it forward.

See the first part of Martin Allman's interview here.

Sonnen will be attending Solar Media's Energy Storage Summit at Twickenham Rubgy Stadium, London, on 28 April. The event – featuring 40 high-level speakers and three streams (residential, commercial and utility scale) – will address all the key issues related to storage deployment. You can view the programme here and the attendee list here.
